Sir George Macfarlane Medal

The Royal Academy of Engineering awarded Dr Ruth Misener the Sir George Macfarlane Medal for excellence in the early stage of her career. Ruth was also one of the winners of the RAEng Engineers Trust Young Engineer of the Year competition. Find the press release here.

Georgia Kouyialis presented her poster Heuristics with Performance Guarantees for the Minimum Number of Matches in Heat Recovery Networks  at PSE@ResearchDayUK. Congratulations to Georgia for winning the Best Poster award! Georgia’s work is in collaboration with Dr Dimitrios Letsios and Dr Ruth Misener.

RA Symposium

Dr Dimitrios Letsios presented his work on Heuristics with Performance Guarantees for the Minimum Number of Matches in Heat Recovery Networks at the 2017 Department of Computing Research Associate Symposium. Congratulations to Dimitris on his 2nd Prize in the Top Presentation competition! Dimitris’ work is in collaboration with Georgia Kouyialis and Dr Ruth Misener.

Computational Management Science

Radu Baltean-Lugojan gave a contributed talk and Prof Wolfram Wiesemann gave a plenary talk at the 2017 Conference on Computational Management Science. Well done, Radu and Wolfram! Dr Ruth Misener served on the Program Committee for CMS2017.

5th Belgian Symposium on Tissue Engineering

Simon Olofsson gave both a presentation and a poster presentation at the 5th Belgian Symposium on Tissue Engineering. Simon’s work is in collaboration with Dr Ruth Misener, Dr Marc Deisenroth, Dr Roberto Calandra, Professor Lies Geris, and her research team. Well done, Simon!  

Mathematical Optimization for Energy Networks Final Conference

Radu Baltean-Lugojan gave a presentation titled Piecewise Parametric Structure in the Pooling Problem – from Sparse Strongly-Polynomial Solutions to NP-Hardness at the Mathematical Optimization in the Decision Support Systems for Efficient and Robust Energy Networks Final Conference in Modena, Italy. Radu’s presentation is here. His work is joint with Dr Ruth Misener.

ModLife Secondment

Simon Olofsson will be visiting the group of Prof Alexander Mitsos at RWTH Aachen for April-May 2017. The secondment is a part of the ModLife project. Bon Voyage, Simon!

IBM PhD Fellowship

Congratulations to Radu Baltean-Lugojan for winning a 2017/18 IBM PhD Fellowship! Dr Pierre Bonami will act as Radu’s IBM mentor.

FOCAPO/CPC

PhD student Georgia Kouyialis presented her work on symmetry in optimal heat recover networks at FOCAPO/CPC 2017. Georgia was awarded a travel grant to attend the conference. Dr Ruth Misener also gave a presentation at FOCAPO/CPC based on joint work with PhD student Miten Mistry.
